Swatch Seeks Damages from Samsung Over IP Dispute

According to the Financial Times, Swatch, the iconic Swiss watchmakers is seeking USD 170 million in damages from Samsung, the South Korean-conglomerate, for allegedly allowing digital clones of Swatch watches on Samsung smartwatches.

In 2022, the High Court in London found Samsung to have infringed upon Swatch's trademark by allowing third-party apps to replicate popular models of Swatch-owned brands  on their smartwatches. Whilst the court course case began in 2019, merely 3 years after Britain voted for Brexit, the ruling also relevant to the European Union, since Britain was still officially part of the bloc at the time.

A British judge is expected to ​rule ⁠on damages following the High Court's judgement, and clears the way for Swatch to file claims against a Samsung subsidiary in the United States.
