Calvin Klein and Ganni Dive into Product Circularity

Earlier this month both Calvin Klein and Ganni launched new sustainable initiatives promoting product circularity.

Calvin Klein and Trove Launch Re-Calvin

Last week, Calvin Klein launched Re-Calvin, a program that encourage customers to send back their pre-loved fashion items. The partnership was developed with both Trove, a leading brand reseller and trade-in platform, and Debrand, their sorting and logistics partner. The initiative is free for Calvin Klein customers in the US, and notably also accepts intimate wear and swimwear, which is unusual for most circular fashion programs.

Most notably, Re-Calvin allows customers to send in item from any fashion brand, not just Calvin Klein, all they need to do is go to the Re-Calvin website, print a free shipping label and post the parcel. Once received each package is processed and sorted as per strict guidelines:

  • Reuse: Pre-loved items in good condition are either donated or sent to secondhand distribution partners.

  • Recycle / Downcycle: Items that cannot be reused, either due to normal wear and tear, or for hygiene reasons, like underwear, will be recycled into new fibers whenever possible, or downcycled into other materials used in the production of functional materials like insulation or padding.

  • Responsible Disposal: If the items sent in are neither fit for reuse nor recycling or downcycling, they will be disposed responsibly, aiming to turning them from waste into energy or alternative fuels. Calvin Klein, however, does not provide any more information as to how this process works.

Once the donated items have been processed, customers will be notified by email on how their donations were managed, thus providing an additional layer of transparency

The Ganni and Vestiare Collective Partnership

GANNI and Vestiare Collective, the second-hand fashion re-seller, have partnered up to give customers selling their pre-loved Ganni items on the Vestiaire Collective marketplace a GANNI gift card, as well as an additional 10% on top. Nevertheless, there are some restrictions on the quality in which the items are sent-in, which limits the reach of the partnership.
